Celebrating the beauty of fall and community, along with city improvement projects, have paved the way for the first Camanche Fall Festival.
“It should be a fun event for everyone,” event organizer Karlee Low said. “We are really hoping it doesn’t rain.”
Camanche will hold its first Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at City Park. The event will include crafts, homegrown items and vendor products fair, local entertainment, great pumpkin race, big belly barbecue, hot dogs, baked goods, apple cider, music, children’s activities and face painting. Entertainment will include the Camanche Twirlers, a Zumba demonstration and music provided a D.J.
Families can partake in a hay maze assembled by Camanche Middle School eighth-graders. Money raised from the maze will go toward their trip to Philadelphia in the spring. Gunny sack races and old-fashioned games will also keep young ones entertained. Rain location is the Camanche Middle School cafeteria.
As Washington Boulevard nears completion, residents were looking for ways to highlight the area and encourage community gathering. The group of citizens and volunteers that organize the Party in the Park events in the summer, decided they wanted to do something different and highlight the fall.
“We’re changing the look of our town,” Low said. “This park is the center of our town and it’s nice to see it get used.”
The Camanche Volunteer Fire Department will host its 44th annual open house as well.
“We planned the Fall Festival on the same day, so people could enjoy both events,” Low said. “Stop over before or after the Camanche Fire Department open house. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy fall weather with family, friends and community members.”
There will be fire hats for the kids, temporary tattoos, door prizes for both adults and kids, and refreshments. In addition there will be fire truck rides, Med-Force Helicopter, Fire Safety House demonstrations, Alliant Energy demonstration, Red Cross, Emergency Management, Stop Drop and Roll, Carbon Monoxide safety and education material, free blood pressure checks. Members from the Emergency K-9 Operations, Search and Rescue group will be on hand with their dogs to answer questions. Clinton County Sheriffs Department/DARE program will be available to do IDs for kids.
In order to accommodate the hay bale maze, Sixth Avenue will be shut down during the fall festival.
