CLINTON — Ashford University plans to use part of the land purchased from the Clinton Country Club to build a new soccer field and track, university officials said Friday.
The plans call for an artificial turf soccer field that is NAIA compliant and a track that will surround the field.
Friday’s announcement was the first indication about what Bridgepoint Education, the parent company of Ashford, will do with the 128 acres of acquired property.
University officials confirmed they planned to purchase the private18-hole golf course in December but only said it would be used for future campus expansion.
No additional details have been made public about what the rest of the property will be used for.
“At this time, our strategy will be to prepare a plan on how exactly we will be developing the property,” said Andrew Clark, Bridgepoint CEO. “We’re initially looking at building new soccer and track facilities that will be completed by fall 2010.”
After Ashford purchased the Clinton Country Club, board members bought Valley Oaks golf course, which was the lone public 18-hole golf course in town.
The new course is called Clinton Country Club at the Oaks and is slated to be opened to the public in two weeks.
