CLINTON —
Geographic data from the Clinton County Assessor is now available online. County Assessor Roland S. Ehm presented the new data at a Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday.
The new online information is part of the Geographic Information System (GIS) being developed for the county.
“We are making another step in GIS, but it is still in progress,” Ehm said.
The Schneider Corporation, through the web portal Beacon, is hosting the data for Clinton County. The map function is currently available for some townships in the western portion of the county including Lost Nation, Toronto and Wheatland along with Sharon Township, Liberty Township and Spring Rock Township. Additional townships will become accessible over the next year.
Owner history, sales, valuation, taxation, tax history and aerial photography are just a few of the features that the new program offers. Officials hope to have the entire county mapped out within a year.
“About 80 percent of the information people want is now available,” Ehm said.
Providing online data will make it easier for those looking for real estate information and more efficient for the office in being able to handle requests without having to fax out the information and related material, according to Ehm. Besides continuing to map out the rest of the county, the assessor’s office also plans to add additional features such as drainage districts and survey information.
“Our goal is to make as much information available on the web as possible,” Ehm said. “Maps are ever evolving and dynamic. There will be change on a daily basis.”
Currently, information is integrated from the County Assessor’s and County Treasurer’s offices on one screen with a three-year history of taxes and four years of assessed values. To retrieve information, use the following URL: http://beacon.schneidercorp.com/.
