MENDOTA, Ill. —
Fulton beat Coal City 25-13, 26-24 on Saturday to claim third place at the Mendota volleyball tournament.
The Steamers won five of six games in pool play to finish first. They then lost 25-10, 25-13 to Orion in the semifinals.
Morgan Wierema led Fulton (11-14-1) with 21 kills and nine blocks, while Rachael Beiermann had a team-high 37 assists, Amy Knight served 10 aces and Kylie Kennedy recorded 46 digs to along with 17 kills.
Erie wins title
LANARK, Ill. — Erie finished 5-0 on Saturday to win the title of the inaugural Linda Ludwig Memorial Tournament hosted by Eastland.
The Cardinals defeated Eastland, the Eastland junior varsity, the Galena junior varsity, Sterling Newman and East Moline United Township in the round-robin format.
Erie handed runner-up Eastland its only loss with a 27-25, 25-23 victory in the second round. Sterling Newman went 3-2 to place third. Eastland is the second seed for the Illinois Class 1A regional that will be hosted by top-seeded Erie.
