John S. Boland, 97, of Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at the nursing home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Morrison United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dan Schenck, pastor of Morrison United Methodist Church, and Pastor Steve Harmon, pastor of Open Bible Fellowship in Morrison, will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison.
Memorials may be made to Morrison United Methodist Church and Harmony Foundation International, Inc., which supports Youth in Harmony in schools and summer camps, 110 Seventh Ave. North Suite 200, Nashville, TN 37203.
He was born January 14, 1915, in Paris, Ill., to Chester Risser and Olive (Swank) Boland.
John was educated in the Paris Grade Schools and was a graduate of Paris High School, Paris, IL. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois.
He married Marjorie Hammer on June 4, 1939, in Morrison; she died February 12, 1995.
John was first employed by the Farm Bureau Extension Service in Monmouth, IL. He later worked as an assistant farm advisor for the Whiteside County Farm Bureau in Morrison, IL. He then farmed in Whiteside County and Clark County, IL.
John was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church, the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. Barbershop Chorus in Sterling, IL, the Whiteside County Farm Bureau and the Republican party.
His special interests included barbershop harmony singing.
Survivors include one son, John Richard (Diane) Boland of Coarsegold, CA; one daughter-in-law, Mary K. (Don) Heinzel of Peoria, IL; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Roger Lee Boland; and one brother, Howard Chester Boland.
