James Lucien Rice, 61, of Clinton, Iowa, died Thursday, August 30, 2012, at his home in Clinton. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory.
James was born August 20, 1951, in Geneseo, Illinois, the son of Orra and Helen (Poerschmann) Rice. James earned his BA degree from the University of Dubuque and his MA Degree from the University of Iowa. He was employed as a Federal Surveyor with the Health Care Financing Agency. Later James founded, Focus Teaching Systems, where he was a passionate advocate for the developmentally disabled.
He married Gwen Hall in St. Louis, MO, in 2001.
James had over 1000 friends on Facebook and loved to talk about politics, music and movies.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen; four stepchildren, including Curtis Dee; four stepgrandchildren, Drianna, Henry and Dorian Richardson and Romel Williams; his twin sister, Jane Rice of Clinton; and brother, Gary Rice, of Santa Rosa, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
