Hazel M. DeVries Carlyle died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.
She was born on October 15, 1918, in New Holland, IL, the daughter of Ray and Inez (Groharing) Machael. She married Jacob DeVries in 1936 in Morrison, IL. He died in 1957. She later married Morris Carlyle in 1963. He died in 1987. She was a member of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church; Church Women United; the United Methodist Women; and the Mariam Circle. Hazel was a bookkeeper, enjoyed music and was an avid reader.
Surviving is her son, Donald R. DeVries of Clinton, IA; two daughters-in-law, Susan DeVries of Rock Falls and Kathleen DeVries of Clinton, IA; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David DeVries; four brothers; two sisters; one grandson; and one great-grandson; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be Friday, January 18, 2013, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Richard Fassig officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Clinton Lawn Memorial Park, Clinton, IA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Rock Falls United Methodist Church.
