CLINTON —
As you may know, a member of the Camanche City Council recently resigned because he moved out of the community.
The City Council decided to fill this vacancy by a special election to be held on Feb. 12.
Misinformation has been circulated throughout the community by a candidate that we feel is both inaccurate and unfair.
In printed material, this candidate questions the integrity of our existing City Council, accuses us of “being out of touch with economy and real needs of the community,” and threatens our employees.
As the members of the current City Council in Camanche, we take exception to this misinformation. We believe Camanche is a well-managed city. We believe our community is sound financially.
We have adequate financial reserves and our property tax rates and utility rates are reasonable. We are proud of the recent projects we have completed and we believe they will serve the community well for many years to come.
We worked hard to reduce costs of the Washington Boulevard project and we were very pleased with the way the financing worked out. We are proud of our employees and the services they provide to our community.
While we support efforts to improve our community, we think inaccurate information and unfounded criticism are detrimental and have no place in local politics. Our common mission is to make our community a better place for our residents and we will continue to work to do so.
