This is a response to the Clinton Herald article dated June 30 about the problems with the curbside solid waste collection.
The $5 bag is a start but not the solution. Another way residents could help resolve this problem without any additional cost to residents is to recycle their recyclables.
I took the liberty to check six curbside overflowing containers and in all cases there were glass and plastic containers, cardboard boxes, pizza boxes and newspapers all which are recyclables — only one case were recycle buckets used.
If residents would use the recycle containers furnished by the city or a 5 gallon plastic container to recycle their cans, plastic containers, cardboard and newspapers it’s a good bet the containers would never overflow if picked up weekly.
It’s my hope the city council would encourage more recycling which is good for the environment.
