READER'S LETTER: Bikes needed for RAGBRAI display

CLINTON — Preparations continue for RAGBRAI XL and a search is on for old bikes. These will be used for decoration in store windows the month of July.

It has been rumored that some barns in Clinton and storage sheds might have some truly unique bicycles.

If the RAGBRAI committee is given the opportunity to “borrow” the bikes, we will care for them and display them in anticipation of the event July 28. They need not be in working condition, and if there is a story to go with the bike, all the better. Bikes will be returned to owners Aug. 1.

Tim Wright (Wagner’s) has offered the windows at  Fifth Avenue and Second Street for a display, and Boo Mueller (Boegel’s) will be contacting other downtown and surrounding merchants.

Won’t this be a great way to get the community excited about having all the visitors the end of July?

Please call Julie Soenksen at 243-4307 or Boo Mueller, 242-3045, if you will join us in the excitement of having the RAGBRAI XL riders and support teams come to our community!

Francie Hill,

Clinton
