CLINTON —
The 17th annual United Way ‘Fork Some Pork BBQ’ delivered 962 pork barbecue sandwiches to hungry individuals and served 138 people on site for all you can eat on Oct. 19.
It is an all-volunteer event that raises funds for needed community services provided by United Way partner agencies.
Many of our volunteers have helped for almost all 17 years and do it cheerfully and willingly. It is fun, interesting to watch and proceeds go for a good cause.
These volunteers and many other people and businesses contribute to making this event a success. They include:
• Brian Angwin, Chris Cain and LyondellBasell for their support and the use of the Employee Recreational Building
• The LyondellBasell volunteers for their time to prepare the meat, the “special recipe” beans, and other tasks needed to make the event a success
• Clinton National Bank for the cups and employees that help make the event a success
• Camanche Fire Department for use of their grill
• Rock Tenn for the terrific boxes for delivery orders
• The Alverno Healthcare Facility for the delicious cookies
• Ashford University for their financial contribution
• Eastern Iowa Propane for the fuel
• Exelon Corporation for the volunteer and financial contribution
• Gateway Vending for the potato chips
• The Kilburg Family and the Preston Meat Locker
• Skyline Center and LyondellBasell for loaning us roasters
• Zirkelbach’s for the ice
• Lynn Todtz and the Sterling Federal Bank employees who select this event for their community volunteer project
• The United Way Board of Trustees, Campaign and CRB Committee Members, and Partner Agencies that help with all aspects of the event
• All the other volunteers — we sincerely apologize if we missed anyone.
• And anyone who purchased meals
We could not have such a successful event without the outstanding support of the community. It is an amazing fundraiser that seems to turn out differently each year. We apologize for meals that were not delivered quite on time, and thank you for being understanding since it is an all-volunteer event. In some respects this fundraiser represents what the United Way is all about...contributions by members of the community who care enough to get involved and make a positive difference.
Again, thanks to everyone who helped and to the community for their support. Together we can accomplish more than any single group or individual can on its own — one dollar at a time, one meal at a time, one child at a time, one family at a time.
