THUMBS UP to Clinton residents Bill and Lois Hall, who were chosen to represent Iowa as citizen heroes as Iowa played Nebraska in the second annual “Heroes Game” football contest. For more than 15 years, the Halls have used their dogs for search and rescue missions in different communities through their nonprofit and serve as reserve county sheriff’s deputies.
THUMBS UP to the Clinton Jaycees and all the volunteers working to make the Symphony of Lights a success in Clinton’s Eagle Point Park. The event, which is a lighting display in the park, will continue through the end of December.
THUMBS UP to Kathy Goetzl, who has been honored with the quarterly Daisy Award bestowed to nurses at Mercy Medical Center. Goetzl was recognized for her love of caring for patients and developing a relationship with each by spending time listening and following through on their needs and the details of their care.
THUMBS UP to organizers and those who donated to the Victory Center’s Great Thanksgiving Banquet last week. A record 611 meals were served at the annual dinner that this year took place at Ashford University.
THUMBS UP to the organizers of a special Thanksgiving dinner served for those with special needs. This is the first time for the event, which was at the Ericksen Community Center. A total of 112 meals was served by a willing group of volunteers, who are planning to do it all again next year.
THUMBS UP to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clinton, which has extended its reach beyond Clinton to mentor children and teens throughout the Gateway area. This is a fantastic program in which mentors help a child with life issues, help them overcome obstacles and improve the odds they will graduate from high school.
