CLINTON —
Since February is National Convention & Visitors Bureau Month, I guess it’s time for us to brag a little about what Clinton’s CVB does.
Last year, 11 large events and many smaller reunions, etc. were held in Clinton and assisted by the staff and volunteers of the CVB. Here at our office, we are always available to assist groups with meetings, conventions and reunions and want to alert our community to take advantage of this service. We have a wonderful network of volunteers as well as staff ready to help in any way we can. Reunions are one way we can help. If your class is anticipating a reunion in the coming year, please call our office and see how we can assist you.
We work all year long on getting events to come to Clinton and this past year has been no exception. And our efforts have paid off in the fact that this year’s WMT600 Tractorcade will be coming to Clinton County, and Clinton specifically, on June 11. The entourage will be spending the night in Clinton on the 11th after lining up their tractors on our riverfront for the community to enjoy. Some of the tractors are newer but many are antique and it’s just fun to “go back in time” and listen to the drivers and their stories.
This means that our hotels, restaurants and retail stores will get the benefit of an extra 400-600 people in our city to boost our economy but it also means that once again, we need to have our entire community put their “best foot forward” and make our city shine. I can’t stress enough how important it is for visitors to see a clean city. It is one of the first things I look at when I visit out of town. It’s not a lot of work to bend down and pick up a piece of rubbish on the street or sweep in front of a storefront or our homes so that we can give a good impression. Each person cleaning and picking up a little bit adds up to a welcoming effect.
We have many opportunities in the month of February listed below but whenever anyone has any questions about “things to do with a riverview” please call us at the CVB at 242-5702.

LEVINE: More participation in Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day once again snuck up on me. It’s not like I don’t know the holiday exists. I’m well aware of the Hallmark-inspired celebration’s yearly date on the calendar, but I never seem to be prepared.

BIELEMA: Citizens should stay committed to Blue Zones
The news is in: Clinton will not be in the first round of cities selected as a Blue Zone community. But just because we weren’t selected does not mean it is the end of the road — nor should it be.

I sat perplexed in the office Saturday morning. By 10 a.m., scanner traffic continually featured with Clinton Police officers discussing parking problems for graduation ceremonies at Ashford University.

BICKER: Bathing beauty is born; watch out Elle Macpherson
After a lot of hard work, sweat and tears, I finally found a swimsuit to wear this summer. When I tried on the winner, it was like discovering a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
