LAKE VIEW —
Two separate crashes involving cyclists in Iowa’s RAGBRAI event happened Tuesday.
Two soldiers were hurt when a truck struck one of them just as the team was entering Lake View at about 5:30 a.m.
Maj. Dennis Murphy was reportedly struck from behind. Debris from the crash then struck SFCC. Shane Schreck. Murphy was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital.

A second crash reportedly happened just after 6 a.m. at the M-54 and Highway 71/175 intersection on the east edge of Lake View.
Sac County Sheriff Ken McClure said three cyclists made a u-turn on highway 75 after they became unsure of the official RAGBRAI route.
The driver of a westbound car did not see the bikes in the roadway, and the car struck cyclist Michael McGowan, 44, of Miami, Fla.
McGowan was thrown into the car’s windshield. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Sac City.
No one else was hurt in the crash. No charges were filed.
