CLINTON —
Take a walk downtown on Fifth Avenue to see vintage-inspired bicycle decorations for the upcoming RAGBRAI event.
See a child’s front pedal balance bike, a unicycle and a 1952 Scout with a 3-inch tire, which owner Ron Garrison rode as a child.
“The many baskets on the old bikes remind us that there was a time before backpacks,” Julia Soenksen, of the RAGBRAI publicity committee, said.
Among the participating businesses are: Boegel’s Men’s Wear and Ladies Too, American Family Insurance, Midwest Vision, Nutrition Plus, Deja Vu Furniture, River Arts Center, Gateway Monograms, Guzzardo’s Hallmark Shop, Curves, Wagner Pharmacy, Zirkelbach and the Corner Deli and Ice Cream Shoppe.
“The community found the old bikes in attics, barns and garages and the merchants were happy to display them in their windows,” Boo Mueller, with the RAGBRAI publicity committee, said.
Every business in Clinton is encouraged to decorate a window for this event. Clinton is the dip site for an expected 15,000 bicyclists.
Any other businesses interested in using one of the donated bikes should contact Mueller at 242-3045.
