More good news for Clinton High School was shared during the Clinton County Development Association meeting on Wednesday.
The Restoring Royalty project is going well, according to Tim Hartsock of the Clinton Athletic Booster Club.
Hartsock gave the CCDA an update on the project on Wednesday per the five-year pledge agreement between the two groups.
“It’s a good project all around for our kids,” Hartsock said.
The field turf project is expected to cost around $800,000. Hartsock said the group already has between $400,000 and $500,000 and will try to raise another $200,000.
The project has enough funding to contract in March.
Hartsock believes the field will be outfitted with new Astroturf and ready for the 2013-2014 school year.
Gary Lueders, activities director for the Clinton School District, told the Clinton School Board this week that he would like to hold a ceremony to honor the inaugural group of inductees to CHS’s Hall of Fame in August. He hopes the district will also celebrate the new field turf at the same time.
Through the long-term pledge agreement, the Restoring Royalty campaign was awarded a $500,000 grant to be spread over a five-year period. The groups are three years into the agreement.
Restoring Royalty has completed a number of other projects including the new baseballs fields and press box.
The field turf project is nearly a year ahead of the original schedule, which pegged a 2014 completion date.
The CCDA also reviewed the schedule for awarding the Fund B grants. Applicants could request up to $75,000 and 25 percent of the total project cost.
Forty-eight applicants threw their hat in the ring for a portion of the $400,000 the CCDA has available.
The applications are currently being scored before they head to the review committee for recommendations.
The grants will be up for final approval at the CCDA’s September meeting.
The next CCDA meeting will be 7:30 a.m. Sept. 19 at the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce.
