CLINTON —
The Clinton High Hall of Fame Committee is now taking nominations for its inaugural class of inductees.
A nine-member committee has met for almost 18 months, creating bylaws and nomination practices for the hall of fame. The hall of fame will serve as a place to honor outstanding athletes, coaches, contributors and teams.
“We’re ready to go,” Activities Director Gary Lueders said.
A copy of the hall of fame’s bylaws and nomination forms are posted on the athletic department’s page on the school website.
Those nominating an individual or team should attach any news articles or information that would be helpful for the nominating committee. Nominations will be due March 1 and the names of those chosen will be announced in May.
Any nominations that are not picked will be saved in a file to be considered for the next year. Nominations can be mailed or brought to the Activities Office, 817 Eighth Ave. South.
Lueders informed the board that the committee has already received 10 to 12 nominations.
“I think we’re going to have a class that everyone can be extremely proud of,” Lueders said.
The first class of hall of fame members will be inducted on Aug. 30, 2013, which is the night of the first high school football game. Inductees will receive a plaque and another will be displayed at the high school. Lueders said they are planning a special ceremony and felt it was appropriate to have it on the night of the first football game.
Superintendent Deb Olson wondered about the funding for the hall of fame. So far, the program has received a donation to help fund it. Lueders expects another donation as well. He said they have a good amount of seed money.
“This committee’s done a wonderful job and we’re really excited about going forward,” Lueders said.
