CLINTON —
The Clinton School Board will decide on a number of initiatives on Monday that will affect next school year including staff reductions and whether to close the Lincoln campus and move students to a building adjacent to Clinton High School.
According to district officials, the move to close the Lincoln campus and relocate students is meant to strengthen student success. Students who attend Lincoln are classified as Tier III students, meaning they need additional support and opportunities for learning. Relocating students closer to CHS is necessary in order for them to be able to take advantage of these opportunities, officials say.
If the board approves the measure, it will be effective starting next school year.
The board also will take action on a series of reductions that are meant to make up for a nearly $900,000 shortfall the district faces due to declined enrollment. Under the proposal, which would also take effect next year, the district would reduce four seventh and eighth grade positions, one sixth grade position, six kindergarten through fifth grade positions, one high school world language position, one fifth through 12th grade instrumental music position, one preschool position, one high school auto trades position and half of a high school business position. These changes would be made by reduction and attrition.
The associate principal position at Washington Middle School also would be converted to a dean of students and a number of positions that will be vacated due to early retirement would be filled at a lower rate under the proposed cost-saving measure.
The Clinton School Board meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Bluff Elementary School.
