The Camanche School District is making at-risk students and anti-bullying a priority for the remaining school year and beyond.
The Camanche School Board approved short-term and long-term goals at a meeting this week.
Many of the previous years’ goals were continued into the 2012-13 school year with the exception of a few additions, including promoting an anti-bullying philosophy and prioritizing the support of at-risk students. Superintendent Tom Parker presented a report on the at-risk programs.
“We are taking a look at our little Indians program at the elementary school along with our middle and high school programs,” Parker said.
Camanche schools use study tables and online learning opportunities to reach and aid at-risk students among other programs. Study tables are currently offered to high school students only after school. School officials are looking into offering the program during the school day to reach more students.
“We want to increase the effectiveness of these programs,” Parker said.
Other short-term goals include updating the presentation and capabilities of the district website, providing wellness lifestyle education, direction and motivation for students, faculty and staff and to promote the growth of Camanche Schools Foundation and make it self-sustaining.
Long-term goals for the next three to five years remained almost exactly the same as previous years. The sole new goal is to develop an ongoing facilities plan that enhances the instructional environment, properly maintains facilities and improves upon current activities-related facilities.
Other goals included exploring vocational opportunities for students, providing leadership in promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles and analyzing and prioritizing the financial needs and resources to effectively operate the school district.
