Seven Sabers are all-district

DEWITT — Central DeWitt had 11 football players recognized with postseason honors for their performance in Class 3A District 6.

Leading the way were seven Sabers who were selected to the all-district first team.

Senior Chris Keitel rushed for 521 yards and four touchdowns in the six district games and had 25 tackles, eight for loss, to earn first-team accolades. Joining him on the first team in the backfield is senior teammate Austin Lechtenberg, who rushed for 286 yards and two touchdowns and led the team with 22 solo tackles.

Quarterback Mitch Green gives the Sabers three members of their backfield on the first team. Green rushed for 413 yards and five touchdowns. He also completed more than 50 percent of his passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns.

AJ Smith, who led the team with 40 total tackles and eight total sacks — two solo — earned first-team accolades. Senior Jake Thumann grabbed a spot on the first team with 24 tackles and an interception.

Senior linemen Drew Volrath and Cameron Donovan were also selected to the first team. Donovan, who served as the center on offense, was second on the team with 38 total tackles. Volrath had 29 total tackles.

Junior Jake Feldpausch earned second-team honors after rushing for 314 yards — 7.9 yards a carry — and four touchdowns. Senior Mitch Kirby was named to the second team after scoring two district touchdowns — one rushing and one on an interception return. He also had 11 solo tackles.

Jake Kagemann grabbed a second-team spot with 24 tackles, including a sack. The final spot for Central DeWitt on the all-district team was grabbed by Drew Schroeder, who had 10 total tackles.

Maquoketa had 10 players receive all-district honors, including six on the first team.

Senior Josh Kirk led the way with 709 rushing yards — second in the district — and nine touchdowns. Brad Johnson earned first-team recognition, leading the Cardinals with 125 yards receiving in district play. He also intercepted four passes and was second on the team with 45 total tackles.

Junior Cohl Kueter earned first-team distinction after leading the Cardinals with 74 total tackles (52 solo), 17 solo tackles for loss and four solo sacks.

Senior Tyler Regan was selected as the center. Senior Ty Thede had 39 tackles (31 solo) with three sacks and two fumble recoveries as a linebacker.

Junior Cory Wirth was selected as the first-team punter. He averaged 36.6 yards a punt with a long of 65.

Representing Maquoketa on the second team is junior Trent Bollman, who rushed for four touchdowns and passed for three. Blaise Waller led the Cardinals with 10 receptions for 107 yards and also rushed for a touchdown.

On the defensive side, junior Jeb Miller was named to the second team after recording 39 district tackles, 29 solo. He intercepted two passes, returning one for a 38-yard touchdown. Junior Ben Strathman also made the second team after leading the district in punt return yards with 198. He also had 151 yards of kickoff returns.
