Camanche's Roth transferring to Clinton CC

CLINTON — Taylor Roth of Camanche has signed a NJCAA national letter of intent to play basketball for the 2011-2012 academic year at Clinton Community College.

Roth was a redshirt freshman at Ashford University last year and will have two years of eligibility at Clinton Community College.

Roth played his high school basketball at Camanche for coach Josh Davis. He was twice a member of the All-Big East Conference team and made the Herald’s All-Area second team as a senior.

He averaged 13.7 points a game as a senior, shooting 47.9 percent from the field and 71.8 percent from the free-throw line, and grabbed 6.7 rebounds a game. He also improved his 3-point shooting dramatically. After making just three as a junior he was 29 for 72 (40.3 percent) from beyond the arc as a senior. As a junior, he averaged 15 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 67.2 from the line.

“Student–athletes like Taylor are vital to helping us turn our program around,” CCC coach Joe Shovlain said. “He is a local athlete and has great work ethic. He is a good student, good leader and good person. He has a passion for basketball and is going to be a great student-athlete for CCC.”

The 6-foot-1 Roth is projected to play shooting guard for the Cougars, who open the season Nov 3 at home against Black Hawk.
