River Kings’ Marcos-Teles wins again

ELDRIDGE — Clinton senior Emmanuel Marcos-Teles kept his perfect season going Tuesday by winning the boys varsity race at the Lancer Invitational, hosted by North Scott High School.

Marcos-Teles ran the course in 16 minutes, 20 seconds, beating Davenport Central’s Mason Tope across the finish line by 15 seconds. Marcos-Teles held back a bit in the first mile, passing the marker in sixth place, before turning it on the rest of the way.

Nathan Schroeder also finished in the top 10 for Clinton, taking eighth in 17:46. The River Kings finished third in the team competition with 79 points. Led by a 2-3-4 finish, Central won the boys title with 30 points, while Bettendorf was second with 45. Central DeWitt was sixth and Maquoketa placed seventh.

Kim Kaster led Clinton’s girls with a 12th-place finish in 17:11, while Central DeWitt’s Mikayla Coyle was five spots behind her and Clinton’s Shelby Weets finished 21st.

Bettendorf won the girls team title with 23 points, led by individual champion Mahnee Watts in 15:23. Central DeWitt placed fourth with 110, while Clinton was fifth with 131 and Maquoketa sixth with 171.
