United Way of Clinton County recently announced that it has reached 88.1 percent of its $600,000 fall campaign goal by receiving $528,307 in contributions.
The Camanche division again leads division results by reaching 96.4 percent of its $8,500 goal with $8,193 in contributions.
The professional division is at 93.5 percent of its $32,000 goal with $29,915 in contributions.
The pacesetter division is at 90.1 percent of its $430,000 goal with $387,587 in contributions.
The special gifts division is at 88.3 percent of their $10,500 goal with $9,275 in contributions. The retail small business division is at 88.7 percent of their $45,500 goal with $40,349 in contributions.
The DeWitt division is at 70.6 percent of its $42,000 goal with $29,668 in contributions. Out-of-county contributions are estimated at $16,009 and special events, such as Fork Some Pork Barbecue, provided $7,311.
The Dec. 13 report meeting focused on the issue of job and life skills. Job and life skills are personal abilities and talents that help employees to carry out work related tasks beyond the technical requirements of a particular job.
In addition to being courteous and respectful, having basic computer skills and being able to listen to, carry out and focus on a job task, employees need to come to work on time, work the hours expected, call in when late or ill and dress appropriately. These skills enable individuals to get and keep a job, which leads to a steady income to meet financial needs for housing, food, transportation and saving for the future.
United Way of Clinton County funded programs work in many ways to teach job and life skills and reinforce good work habits that lead to a stable job. These programs provide job coaching, children and youth mentoring, character development and job and life skills education and training to many individuals and families. Many of those helped are struggling with addictions, mental health issues or abusive relationships.
More than 4,000 children were mentored last year in one-on-one or group settings to learn communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving skills and personal skills.
More than 600 individuals participated in life skills education or support programs. More than 200 people, with special needs, were provided with job coaching and mentoring to live as independently as possible. More than 10,000 families received financial supports while working toward a better life.
