CLINTON —
Kathy Goetzl, a nurse with Mercy Medical Center, recently received the quarterly DAISY award for extraordinary nurses.
The award is presented in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives and is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the efforts nurses perform everyday.
Goetzl began working in the medical unit at the former Jane Lamb Hospital after receiving her ADN. Goetzl continued her work until the merger of the two hospitals and transferred with her unit to Samaritan North, now known as Mercy Medical Center. She is a nurse on the Med/Surg unit located on the fourth floor.
Her nominator said that when she began in 1986, she brought inspiration to both employees and patients as a young, energetic new graduate who loved caring for patients. Goezl was recognized for her love of caring for patients and develops a relationship with each by spending time listening and following through on their needs and the details of their care.
“Kathy continues to dote on all of her patients,” the nomination said. It also said that she has been recognized by name by patients after they have been discharged.
Goetzl received a certificate for being an extraordinary nurse. The certificate said, “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” Goetzl also received a daisy pin, a bouquet of daisies and a sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch,” which was hand carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa. Mercy’s Med/Surg unit also was honored.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. A nurse is chosen quarterly, in May, August, November and February, by Mercy’s Clinical Advancement Recognition of Excellence Council to receive the award. Patients, family, visitors, friends, co-workers or physicians also can nominate nurses. Those interested in nominating a nurse can obtain a nomination form at the front desk or at any nurse’s station.
