Easter Seals event also to benefit Make-A-Wish

CLINTON — For the first time, Make-A-Wish will join Clinton’s 32nd annual Easter Seals Children’s Therapy Center run/walk.

“I just wanted to get more involved with Make-A-Wish,” Jean Roeder, race director, said. Proceeds from this year’s event will be split between Make-A-Wish, Easter Seals and the Children’s Therapy Center.

Roeder has been talking with Clinton County Make-A-Wish President Barb Jacobsen about working together. Jacobsen started the Clinton chapter of Make-A-Wish 22 years ago. She said the organization tried to host a walk, but had little success. Jacobsen said they just needed to partner with someone who knew what they were doing.

Registration on the day of the event will be from 8 to 8:45 a.m. March 24 at the Clinton Masonic Center, 416 S. First St. The children’s quarter mile run is set for 8:45 a.m. with the 4-mile run/walk starting at 9 a.m. on Riverview Drive.

Shirts will be available to the first 300 participants. A total of 200 free prizes will be given out after the race.

The entry fee for adults will be $17 before Sunday and $25 after that date. Children are $8 in advance and $10 afterward.

Applications are available at the YWCA. Individuals can register by calling Roeder at (815) 589-4945 or visiting getmeregistered.com.

Approximately 300 people participated in last year’s race, Roeder said.

She hopes this year’s turnout will be similar.
