Adventure series connects Iowans to destinations

MAQUOKETA — An Iowans on Adventures series will connect Iowans to destinations around the United States.

The programs will take place Jan. 20, Feb. 10 and March 17 at the Hurstville Interpretive Center in Maquoketa. This series is designed to raise funds for the Friends of Jackson County Conservation. The Friends group supports environmental education and outdoor recreation projects throughout Jackson County.

A presentation about Salmon Fisheries of Alaska will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20. Matt Andresen, a native of Maquoketa, will share insights about these fish that spend part of their lives in fresh water and part of their lives in saltwater.

The next event will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, regarding the bars of Wyoming. Julie Couch will discuss how small town bars serve as watering holes, post offices, stores and more.

The final event will be on estuaries of Southwest Florida at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17. Megan Andresen researched estuaries in college and will provide a version of her guided tours through these places where salt and fresh water meet.

Cost for each program is $5 and includes refreshments.

For more information or to reserve a spot for any of the programs, contact the Jackson County Conservation Board office at the Hurstville Interpretive Center at (563) 652-3783.
