CLINTON —
Members of the City Services Committee decided to recommend the city contract with Candlelight Inn owner Matt Prescott for marina and RV park operations.
Committee members interviewed three candidates for the job Wednesday and came back with a recommendation on Friday. The others interviewed were Doug’s Mobile Service and Grounds and Facilities Superintendent Tom Krogman as a representative of the city. All committee members agreed that Prescott was the best choice to run the facility, which they hope will become a money-making venture for the city.
“I think his proposal was reasonable. His thoughts and ideas were good and I think he is a person who could pull the Riverview area together and make it a real destination,” Committee Chairwoman Bev Hermann said.
Prescott’s proposal calls for a $120,000 annual cost for the city in order to be properly staffed and pay insurance. The request for proposal issued by the city also stipulated the contract will be for five years with one-year reviews and the ability to terminate the contract if the city is unsatisfied with the service provided.
The committee will send the recommendation forward to the Committee of the Whole where Prescott will be required to present his proposal to the entire city council. Council members will then be able to ask questions and discuss. If the COW approves, the item will go to the City Council at the last meeting in February, giving City Attorney Jeff Farwell permission to draw up a contract with Prescott.
City officials at the end of last year decided not to renew a contract with current Marina Operator Skipper Buds and instead put out a new request for proposal for marina management. The RFP included also a stipulation that the new manager would be in charge of the RV Park, with the hope of monetizing it.
Skipper Buds contract expires on April 30. Pending Council approval, the earliest the contract with Prescott would be approved would be the first meeting in March. Skipper Buds would then be required to aid Prescott in the transition to operating the marina.
