Teenager pleads to lesser charge in pizza robbery

CLINTON — A Clinton teenager charged with first-degree robbery has pleaded to a lesser charge.

Darren D. Cross, 17, will not spend any additional time in jail after pleading guilty to accessory after the fact to the robbery of a Pizza Hut delivery employee.

Cross was ordered to spend 224 days in the Clinton County jail, with credit for the 224 days he had already served. He was fined $625, which was suspended.

Cross was arrested on July 15 in connection with a robbery on June 24 at 866 Fourth Ave. North. According to court documents, the delivery driver reported that he was struck in the head twice from behind with a brick as he walked up to the porch of the house. The victim turned around and was punched in the face by a person who was previously sitting on the porch.

The victim ran back to his vehicle, after dropping the pizza bag and pop, according to the affidavit.  He was treated at the emergency room for injuries to the back of his head.

According to court documents, witnesses stated that Cross was present at time of the robbery.

Another witness told police that she heard Cross and others discussing committing a robbery of the pizza delivery person and that Cross asked to use her cell phone, according to the affidavit. The witness’ cellphone number was shown to be the one that called Pizza Hut at the time before the robbery, according to court documents.

Cross must complete 12 months of probation and pay victim restitution.
