CLINTON —
On behalf of all the at-risk children that will benefit from services from Big Brothers Big Sisters I would like to thank Ashford University for coordinating our fourth annual Breakfast with Santa.
I really want to thank Shelly Mohr, Betsy Vanausdeln, Matt Sieverding, Karen Tack, Jean, Karen, Amanda, Andrea, Deb, and your Ashford Heroes teammates for all of your hard work, sewing skills, and constant upbeat enthusiasm.
I also want to thank Audra Adams and her Ashford University students who helped play games with kids, helped make picture frames, helped kids with Christmas cards, decorate, serve, set up and clean up.
I must admit that I reached into the mailbox and looked at the Christmas cards the kids made for the troops who will not be home for Christmas and tears came to my eyes.
In addition I would like to thank Ashford University, Citizens Bank, Homers Deli/Sweetheart Bakery and Wild Rose Casino and Resort for sponsoring the event.
We also owe a big thank you to all of the area businesses who provided food donations.
Finally I don’t want to forget to thank Santa and Champ the Puppy for providing photo opportunities for all of the children.
As a result of the efforts of all those listed above a new record of 228 children and 222 adults were treated to a great program.
Because of the generous efforts of so many volunteers, sponsors, food donors and donations from those who attended, we will be able to provide an adult role model for two at-risk youths for their entire school years’ experience.
We at Big Brothers Big Sisters are always looking for children ages 5-17 who could benefit from having an adult mentor in their lives.
We also welcome adults, 18 and over, who would like to have the life-changing experience of mentoring a young adult.
Mentoring has been proven to help a child with life issues, help them overcome obstacles, and improve the odds they will graduate from high school.
