Authorities probe two Clinton house fires

CLINTON — The causes are still unknown for two Clinton fires that occurred this weekend.

No one was injured in an apartment fire at 4:28 a.m. Sunday at 1850 Glendale Road, apartment 41. According to a press release from the Clinton Fire Department, units were dispatched for a report of smoke in the hallway, with a resident unable to see to get out of the building. The fire department responded with two engines, one ladder truck, two ambulances, one command vehicle and 11 personnel. Camanche Fire assisted with one engine, one command vehicle and six personnel.

Fire units found a fire, which was contained to the kitchen, in an apartment at the basement level. Other apartments in the building were evacuated. The fire was under control in approximately 15 minutes, but fire crews remained on scene for four hours.

The Clinton Fire Department confirmed this morning that the cause for this fire is still under investigation.

The department is also still investigating the Friday fire that caused $10,000 of smoke and water damage to a Clinton apartment building at 2119 Roosevelt St.

The Gateway Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting individuals affected by both fires. According to a press release from American Red Cross Communications Coordinator Kasey Kelly, the American Red Cross responded to six fires this weekend including two in Clinton, two fires in Rockford, Ill., one fire in Moline, Ill, and one apartment fire in Burlington that affected eight families.
